Interested in developing your capacity to create more inclusive classrooms and learning environments, but unsure of where to start? Here are some suggestions:
CTLT Inclusive Teaching Workshops
CTLT regularly offers workshops that are intended for anyone within UBC’s teaching and learning community with an interest in inclusive teaching practices. We welcome participants from a broad spectrum of existing knowledge, experience and backgrounds.
Anti-Racist Teaching and Learning
These workshops developed in collaboration between CTLT and the Equity & Inclusion Office are for UBC faculty, staff, and educators who wish to cultivate a teaching or facilitation practice that serves as a form of solidarity, and is premised upon research and popular education pedagogy in the areas of anti-racism, equity, and inclusion.
CTLT Indigenous Initiatives
CTLT Indigenous Initiatives provides inclusive programming and professional development for the UBC teaching and learning community. Our programming aims to improve classroom climate and campus environments, and to support professional learning and development about place, power, and social location in teaching and learning. Check out two major professional development series, Classroom Climate and the Design Lab.

CTLT Spring, Summer and Winter Institutes
Once a term, CTLT hosts a week-long series of events focused on teaching and learning. Most Institutes include one or multiple sessions that touch on questions of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the classroom, so be sure to keep an eye out for the schedule when it comes out.
Equity & Inclusion Office
The Equity & Inclusion Office offers workshops on a variety of topics related to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Many of these workshops provide foundational knowledge that is useful to creating more inclusive classrooms and learning environments at UBC, such as the Positive Space Campaign.
SOGI UBC is an initiative of the Faculty of Education that aims to nurture an inclusive culture, workplace and learning environment for faculty, staff, and students in the Faculty of Education. This initiative reaches out to other faculties and institutions to develop inclusive climates and practices, especially as they relate to SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) topics, and encourages intersectional ways of thinking about sexual and gender diversity along with race, age, ability, and other areas of marginalization, as well as pedagogical approaches to recognize and intervene to transform the impacts of systemic discrimination.
Promoting Trans Literacies Workshop
Developed and facilitated by the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice, the Promoting Trans Literacies Workshop explores how educators can develop safer, more trans-inclusive pedagogical practices in their classrooms.
